The service

What topside covers

Topside is the work people actually see and touch. It is also the work that takes the hardest beating, since the deck and the seating live under full sun and salt spray from May through October. Each item below can be booked on its own or combined into a full topside package.

Not sure where to start?

The Signature Wash first. It gets the boat clean enough to see what you are actually dealing with, and it is the honest baseline for quoting anything heavier.

  • Trident Signature Wash

    The core deep clean. Full wash down, decks and non-skid, hardware, rails, and a proper rinse. This is the foundation every other topside service is built on.

  • Metal and stainless polishing

    Rails, cleats, rod holders, hardware, and trim brought back from dull and pitted to bright. Salt is brutal on stainless and it shows first at the fittings.

  • Isinglass cleaning and polishing

    Clear vinyl windows cleaned and polished to cut hazing and fine scratching. Treated with the right products, not glass cleaner, which is what wrecks most isinglass.

  • Upholstery cleaning and conditioning

    Deep clean of vinyl seating and bolsters, mildew treatment where needed, then conditioning and UV protection so the material stays soft instead of drying out and cracking.

  • Compounding, polishing, and oxidation removal

    For chalky, faded topside gel coat. Compounding cuts the dead oxidised layer, polishing brings the gloss back up.

  • Hand wax

    Applied by hand for protection and depth. The traditional finish, and a good choice if you like the ritual of doing it seasonally.

  • Ceramic coating

    A harder, longer lasting alternative to wax. Sheds dirt and salt more easily, holds gloss far longer, and makes routine wash downs quicker for seasons at a time.

How it runs

The order matters

Each stage has to happen before the next one will hold. Waxing over oxidation just seals the dullness in.

Assess and quote

Photos or a look in person. We tell you what the finish will realistically come back to before any work is booked.

Wash and decontaminate

The Signature Wash. Salt, grime, and film off the whole boat so we are working on clean gel coat.

Correct

Compounding and polishing where the gel coat has oxidised, plus metal, isinglass, and upholstery work.

Protect

Hand wax or ceramic coating over the corrected finish, so the work you just paid for lasts.

Maintenance plans

Once the finish is right, keeping it right is the cheap part. Wash downs through the season, a mid summer refresh, or a wax and coating schedule built around how often you actually use the boat.

Topside FAQ

What is included in the Trident Signature Wash?

A full wash down, deck and non-skid cleaning, stainless and metal polishing, isinglass cleaning and polishing, and upholstery cleaning and conditioning. It is the baseline deep clean and the foundation everything else is built on.

How often should topsides be waxed?

For a boat that lives outside in the salt air through a South Jersey season, twice a year is the honest answer: once in the spring when it goes in and once before it comes out. A ceramic coating stretches that considerably.

Can you get mildew out of white vinyl?

Most of the time, yes. Surface mildew and staining respond well to a proper deep clean with a dedicated mildew treatment, followed by conditioning and UV protection. Once mildew has rooted into the foam or rotted the stitching, that becomes an upholstery repair rather than a cleaning.

What is the difference between compounding, polishing, and waxing?

Compounding is the cutting step, it removes oxidation and the dead top layer of gel coat. Polishing refines what compounding leaves behind and brings up the gloss. Wax is the protection that goes on top. Skipping straight to wax over chalky gel coat just seals in the dullness.
